That said, the 7Artisans 35mm f1.4 lens has a built in lens hood. The aperture ring of the Chinese lens feels less precise and cheap. Voigtlander is closer to Leica M mount lenses in terms of great build quality in my experience of using both brands. If I compare the 7Artisans 35mm f1.4 Leica lens to the Voigtlander Nokton 35mm f1.4 the Nokton wins for build quality. When I’m proved otherwise it’s then a nice surprise! Build quality As mentioned in my reviews of the TTArtisan 50mm f0.95 and TTArtisan 28mm f5.6 lenses I am still new to Chinese lenses so expectation is always low. The guys at 7Artisans were kind enough to reach out to me and send their 7Artisans 35mm f1.4 Leica M mount lens to test.

My inquisitive data driven mindset and tendency to document things inspired me to start this blog as a personal project. I was immediately hooked and 3 months later a bought a better camera and then another. Photography came to me in my 20s when a girlfriend kindly bought me a camera for Christmas. As a teenager I taught myself very fine detail acrylic painting but went on to study science (and later finance) rather than the arts. As a child my Grandfather inspired me to draw and taught me to paint with watercolours. By year 4 I bought my first Leica camera. After year 3 I was teaching photography in the UK and overseas and writing technical articles for photography magazines. I’m a self taught photographer with 10+ years experience of photographing portraits, models and weddings.
